Road Rides Around Coffs Harbour
|
Coffs Harbour has some fantastic rides for road bikes, here's a couple of our favourites...
The Bucca T: Starting from the centre of Coffs Harbour head north along the Highway, past the Big Banana and take a left up Bruxner Park Rd. Bruxner Park Rd is about a 4km climb, it is a moderate climb for the average fitness level. Roll over the top and start descending, road is a bit rough, after a while you will come to a bridge which requires you to slow down as it is very rough. There are four bridges on this ride, three are very rough while the last one is OK. The road undulates out to Bucca Rd, once you come to a T intersection turnaround and come back to town. Car wise it is quiet however cars can speed because they know it is quiet, so always keep to the left for safety reasons. Also the bridges are narrow so watch for on coming traffic. Ride time is around 1.5 hours for average fitness. Click here to see the Google map. Mt Brown: Starting from the Coffs Hotel in the centre of town, head west on West High Street which takes you out of town toward Coramba. After about 10 minutes (nice warm up) you reach Red Hill, a 70 metre climb in 1.7 kms. Keep a bit in reserve for the last pitch; 30 metres in 400 metres, ouch! You would need to be of moderate fitness to climb Red Hill or be prepared to take your time. Once over the top you descend looking for a left hand turn onto Mt Brown Rd. The road starts to climb again until you reach the top of Mt Brown 3 kms later. After cresting the hill you have a short descent, and come onto a flat section of road. Before descending again you have the option of turning left onto South Island Loop Road which is a 9km loop back to Mt Brown Rd or going straight on. On both options you will pass a school on your left, continue on until you get to a T intersection (a shop is located at this intersection). Turn right at the intersection, you are now back on Orara Way, follow your nose back to Coffs being mindful of the steep descent down Red Hill. Traffic is moderate on Orara Way, but quiet on Mt Brown Rd, & very quiet on Island Loop Rd. Ride time is around 1.25 hours for average fitness. Click here to see the google map.
