One of the strongest local fields for some time took to the Toormina Velodrome under lights on Friday night. Conditions were perfect and the racing first class all night.
Well done to Kitty Thompson who spent the night working on her time trialling, improving with each trip to the line with times of 56.88, 54.00, 52.79 and 52.25 for a hot lap. A combination of dropping breeze and increased focus leading to the improvement.
Well done to Troy Hardaker also who battled against the seniors, and not without result.
The night started with a 20 lap motor paced warm up, enabling new and returning riders to ease into the night. Many thanks to Andrew from Wear It for taking time out from the BMX track to pilot the Derny around.
The B grade 7 lap scratch was won by Dave Mc followed by Alistair and Troy Hardaker.
A grade 7 lap scratch was won by Nathan Hardaker, from Chris Jahnz and Grant Howard.
Three Kieran events followed, race 1 saw Troy hold the bike to take first from Emma and Alistair. Race 2 went to Garry Cameron, followed by Scott Graham blowing out the cobwebs and Dave Mc. Race 3 featured the quicker riders Nathan Hardaker beating Matt V and Richard Berends. Thanks To Geoff for riding the Derny and Tracee for the lap counter and bell work.
An all in Elimination race followed with the early pace shattered by Alistair sprinting up the back straight before anyone could get settled. Many of the first group of eliminations were self nominated, with riders in later eliminations showing superior sprint and positioning skills. Nathan Hardaker again won in the final sprint from Horse Jahnz with Richard Berends just failing to match their sprint legs at the bell.To finish of an excellent night, most riders took part in a 20 lap points race, the first sprint going to Garry Cameron from Scott Graham and Col Makinson, the second sprint going to Adrien Thompson from Matt V and Garry, and the last and final sprint going to Nathan from Richard and Alistair. Garry being the winner with 7 points from Adrien and Nathan on 5.
We STILL have a large number of bikes in the shed looking for riders. If you are aged between six and 60, and want to sample the simple joy of track riding come down on Tuesday night and have a go!
