News from the junior racing on the weekend:Troy (11km) and Nathan (18km) both rode well but did not get a place at Country on Sat.

On Sunday the Sutherland Open was two races; a road and a crit and saw both Metro and Country combined although broken into A and B grade heats. Troy was first out in the morning in about 10degrees weather that only marginally warmed during the day, Troy went out hard and stayed with the pack for the crit race. But he run out of puff half a lap from the finish. (15min + 2 laps)

Nathan rode well and kept the pace and finished fifth. Nathan, the Warburton boys, and two other Academy kids all rode together to hold of the Sydney and other country riders and come 1 – 5. (12min + 2 laps)

Road in the afternoon. Troy just cruised to finished (7.5km).  Nathan (13.5km) got a fourth.  The first three rode as one pack and a break back to the next four.  That four worked together and Nathan was able to sprint away at the end for fourth.

They enjoyed themselves.

This weekend they are riding the Gold Coast Goldstars Junior Two Day Carnival.  Sat at Runaway Bay and Sunday at Nerang.

Maurie Kauto Teams Time TrialCoffs Harbour was well represented this year with the Northern Rivers Rockets team consisting of Rod Harding, Chris Jancz, Aaron O'Grady, Sean Golding & Vanessa McDonald. Their estimated average speed for the 100km was 35km/h which the team smashed coming in 2nd place in the open division with an average speed of 38.1km/h. At the halfway mark the team held an average of 41km/h but they were faced with a headwind when they turned for home. All the members shared the work and were very happy with their result. The only disappointing aspect of the day was Aaron's failure to eat the SEVEN pattie burger supplied by major sponsor David Munro of McDonalds. All the riders and support crew of Leigh, Jake & Lachlan Golding were very grateful for David's hospitality & gold card.

Liam and Numa Warburton participated in the NSW Road Country Championship, and the Southern Cross Junior Road open championship + criterium last week-end.

Both boys did well, with Numa taking second place in the Country championship on the Saturday. The competition was tough, Numa had his first Junior race in Tamworth two weeks prior, he knew that there was a few very fast boys who were going to break away. Numa and Liam managed to stay with the break away group, and Numa did a spectacular sprint finish. He was overtaken just before the line by Stephen Lewis from Manning Valley Cycle Club.

On the Sunday, Numa won the criterium in Division B, and decided to race the afternoon road race in the A division.

Liam got a third place in the Criterium and finished first in the B division road race in the afternoon.

The week-end was a fantastic experience for the boys. Numa and Liam are part of the Talent Identification Program of the North Coast Academy of Sports, and it was nice to see them work as a team with the other NCAS under 15 boys.

The next junior event Numa and Liam are participating in will be the State Championship held in Wagga in August.

The boys are very keen in keeping up their training. They participate in the Club races held in Raleigh every Saturday. They also participate in the Mountain Bike Club races, and train at the velodrome on Tuesday nights under Sue Cameron’s supervision.
