It has been a while, but the weather gods have been smiling over Coffs Harbour for the last couple of weeks. A very happy group of 29 riders took to the starting line as either solo riders or in teams for a 4hr Enduro. The course laid out for the race proved to be the toughest yet in Cows with Guns as every bit of trail was used to make a 13.8km super loop which was about 90% single track. The course took in the Back of Burke trail for the first time and the new climb (appropriately named ‘Hells Bells’) up along the fenceline as well as a little deviation around the slingshot bridge next to Pine Creek. I think everyone did well to stay dry as the 90 degree turn on the creek bank was a bit tricky if you went into it with too much speed. The race was a great test as this will be the loop for the Cows with Guns side of the Pleasure & Pain, so you get even more flowing single track, some new switch back climbs, the berms and jumps in ‘Rawhide’ and the sturdiest bridges north of the Hawkesbury River (and when you go through Macksville you know I’m not exaggerating). By my estimations, you are going to hit the Hells Bells climb at around the 96km mark of the 100km course so I guess that’s where the Pain will come into play. Thank you to John & Rob for cooking the tasty BBQ provided by The Chicken Butchery (Palms Centre & Toormina) and to Mike & Jaye for timing duties. The results will be posted here shortly.Next up is round 6 of the GNaTPACK series at Telegraph Point, Port Macquarie on Sunday 12 August. Enter online here. Hope to see you there.
