Track Racing - 2009 Club Championships

As mystery still surrounds the whereabouts of the 2009 Club Championship results run earlier in the year, a rerun was on the cards, and with better numbers than the March event, I think most people would be happy with the results.

Thanks to Garry and Sue Cameron, Geoff and Tracee Hardaker and Sophie Warburton for helping run the events. Many thanks also to Grafton riders, Greg Robertson, and Jon and Brady Ingram and Col Makinson from Macksville for taking part also.

Exhibition Italian Pursuit: Winning Team from the back straight: Oliver Robb, Maddie Davis, Col Makinson, Zeno Baston, Steve Sloan, Chris Robb, Gary Cameron, Jon Ingram, Numa Warburton, Reece Edwards, Matt Vagg. For reasons that will become obvious, I thought that this was one of the most exciting races that I've been involved in at the Toormina track. Three laps in and the back straighters looked to have the race well in hand, a catch of the home team slugs a distinct possibility. However, spirited riding from the home straight team including Jake, Robbo, Liam, Nathan and Grant, pulled themselves back to level pegging leaving two riders on the track for both teams, and the home boys Aaron and Horse with the momentum. Enter crowd favourite Reece Edwards, who up until now had had an quite night, but pulled out something special (looks like Mandy's Friday night coaching tip did the trick) to put the back straight team in a commanding position, leaving anchor Matt Vagg ride a virtual victory lap, the back straighters just too classy. In the words of Duffman, Oh Yeahh.

To finish off the night Geoff Hardaker kindly piloted the postie for a 20 lap motor paced race. Most riders lined up and with the pace set on easy tiger most of the starters were still in contention when the bike pulled off with 5 to go. Another close result, with Aaron O'Grady first from Matt Vagg and Nathan Hardaker on his shoulder.

The only championship events that we didn't get to were the 1k and 4K individual pursuits which will be run tonight -Tuesday the 15th, or if its too wet, on Saturday night the 19th. The 19th will be the last race of 2009, with racing resuming on January 9th 2010.

Don't forget Ballina's edition of the McDonalds Northern Crit Series race on the 3rd in Ballina. Sign on from an astonishing 7am!!  I don't think we had many from Ballina to our event so it would be great to go up there in numbers and take the series points and their money off them!

Congratulations to this weeks winners, many thanks to those who helped out.

Matt
