MTB - Bullroarer Update 29 April

23/4/2012

A second working bee was held on Sunday 29 April with more clearing of Bullroarer completed. Of course the best laid plans in MTB can be frustrated by rain and we were hoping to put a compactor over the trail but it was too wet. Once it dries out a bit we'll get it bedded in with the compactor - looks like bandicoots like digging in the freshly tuned soil.
Bets are being taken for the length of the trail with most guesstimates landing between 1km and 1.5km of hand built bliss! A massive thank you again to everyone who came along to help out. After the Port Macquarie 24hr race was postponed until 12/13 May due to rain, a last minute decision to hold a working bee on Sunday 22 April was made. Thank you to all who turned up on Sunday to start cutting in the latest trail at Cows with Guns. If you know what a Bullroarer is and have heard the song, we trust you'll think it's a great name for a trail - and it doesn't actually have anything to do with bovines! It's going to be a cracker of trail and after it gets nicely bedded in I think I'll be calling it the Bull-Phwoarer!

It was the biggest turn-out for a working bee for a long time and subsequently a huge amount was achieved with a large section of trail ready to for the bedding in process to begin (not with bikes though - we've got something else in mind!). We hope that you enjoyed seeing how a trail is developed, including flow, gradient changes, measuring sideslope etc. If you'd like to help out with finishing "Bullroarer" or do any trail work for that matter, please drop a message on the Coffs Mountain Bike facebook page.

While you are in a trail frame of mind, check out some of the great resources on the IMBA website. The club also has the IMBA Trail Solutions & Managing Mountain Biking books if you'd like to know more about sustainable MTB practices (MTB is not just about racing). Coffs Cycle Club are affiliated with IMBA Australia and we encourage you to join IMBA Australia when you renew your MTBA membership.

We can't wait till Bullroarer is open for business and hope that you love riding the trail you built.

Cheers
